Cavs Exorcise Demons and Take the Title

The 2016 NBA Finals featured the greatest turnaround in the history of the NBA Finals.  The Cavaliers seized every opportunity that they were given, and, as a result, the city of Cleveland has its first title since 1964.[1]

Game Seven was a good one.  A really good one.  I honestly did not think the Cavs would win until it was well into the fourth quarter, and even then, I thought the Warriors would come back until LeBron James made one of the all-time greatest shot blocks, swatting away a Steph Curry layup.

To those who make fun of the Warriors and say they are failures, stop it.  They had one of the all-time greatest seasons, but happened to come up just short.

Warriors fans, I sympathize.  My favorite team is another one that has the dubious distinction of blowing a 3-1 lead in the playoffs.[2]

Cleveland fans, enjoy this.  Enjoy every bit of it.  As a native of Arizona – whose Big Four teams have a combined total of one championship between them[3] — savor it.  Cherish it.  Buy every piece of championship apparel that you can afford.  You never know when you’ll have another – or if you’ll ever have another chance.

[1] Something that bugged me: the in-game announcers kept saying that the fans in the plaza outside the arena have endured 52 years of suffering – yet no one on screen looked even remotely close to being old enough to remember the 1964 Browns’ NFL Championship.

[2] I’m referring to the Suns blowing a 3-1 lead in the 1995 Western Conference Semifinals.  So yes, I am well-acquainted with basketball pain.  In fact, I dare anyone to prove that another NBA franchise’s fans have suffered more than the Suns fans.

[3] Thank you, 2001 Diamondbacks!
