Dodgers legend Don Newcombe dead at age 92

It was with great sadness that I wrote this obituary, but what an honor it was. Don Newcombe was one of my all-time favorite pitchers — not just for his talent and competitive fire, but because of his perseverance. After his career was cut short by alcohol addiction, he quit drinking in 1966. He then devoted his life to helping others overcome addiction. RIP, Don. You touched many lives. Our loss is Heaven’s gain.
